Some of you may have noticed that I am a little obsessed with North Beacon Hill (or BEHI as some like to call it). I have two widgets on here that feature it – Zillow.com’s House Value widget, and a Walk Score widget (set to discover what is in walking distance from the N. Beacon Hill light rail station). For those who know me personally, you have most likely heard me talk about all of the benefits (current and more importantly near future benefits) of living on N. Beacon Hill, and how I believe it is going to become an even more desirable neighborhood once the light rail station opens in July – only 5 more months!
Why am I so obsessed with North Beacon Hill?
I love a deal (you may be able to tell that I also have an obsession finding deals). One ingredient that makes a deal a deal is knowing about something that is going to be popular before it becomes popular. Right now there are not a lot of people, even in Seattle, that know much about North Beacon Hill. It is one of the few undiscovered neighborhoods left in Seattle. It is my opinion that very soon that is all going to change. The main reasons for this upcoming change is its location to Downtown Seattle (5 minutes away – and no need to use the freeway), I-5, and I-90 (easy access to the Eastside), and the soon to open North Beacon Hill light rail station. Seattle has been waiting for rapid rail transportation for a long time, and now that it is almost here, people are still in the dark about where it goes, and when it opens. Well, here is the route map.
As you can see the light rail route goes right through North Beacon Hill (actually, North Beacon Hill is the only station that they drilled underground to create). And the area directly surrounding the station is ripe for community organized development. There have been neighborhood meetings to discuss and plan for the next step in North Beacon Hill’s future, and it looks bright!
In addition to what is to come on North Beacon Hill, we already have a great amount of ethnic diversity, a new library, some great local restaurants, the Beacon Hill Pub, Yoga on Beacon, Red Apple Market, ABC Market (for some great ethnic ingredients), a golf course and driving range (Jefferson Park), a brand new large park opening in 2009 with amazing views covering the Jefferson Park reservoir, a great public elementary school – Beacon Hill International School (only the second International School in the district!), and amazing views on each side of the hill (either of Downtown Seattle, Elliot Bay, and the Olympics to the west (for an example, look at my header photo at the top of the website – that’s taken from my condo on North Beacon Hill) – or Lake Washington, Mount Rainier, the Cascades, and Downtown Bellevue to the east
). There is a lot of new modern construction townhomes on North Beacon Hill, as well as some great old craftsman homes (not many 60’s, 70’s, or ugly 80’s homes!).
So, that’s it. Those are the reasons why I’m so obsessed with North Beacon Hill. I believe it’s undiscovered, and that it will very soon be discovered. It’s so close to Downtown Seattle, I-5, and I-90 (easy access to the Eastside), the light rail line is opening in only 5 months, and the best reason is – you can get more home for your money here!
If you want more info on North Beacon Hill, or if you’d like a personal tour of it, contact me. As you can see, when I’m passionate about something, I’m willing to share that passion with others (that’s just who I am).
For those of you who are already North beacon Hill lovers, what did I miss? Is there anything that I haven’t found yet? I’m sure there is!
